What We Do

Nature, enterprise and long-term value

Bahari Nature Capital is a Tanzanian nature-capital company with a vision to develop and invest in businesses that restore ecosystems and create sustainable livelihoods. Blue carbon is an early focus within a wider mandate spanning conservation enterprise, environmental assets, science and technology.

Built to convert groundwork into a bankable asset

Bahari Nature Capital Limited is a private company limited by shares, incorporated in Tanzania under the Companies Act, Cap. 212 R.E. 2023. Its mandate brings together nature-based projects, conservation enterprises and investment. Its current portfolio begins with coastal projects in Tanzania. The carbon work itself answers to separate regulation: GN 636 (2022), under which the Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park is classified at Regulation 34(3)(d).

The company's founding draws on three years of pre-commercial development across 15 coastal villages in Mtwara Region: high-quality carbon sampling, socio-economic assessments, legal and policy analysis, and governance diagnostics that validated MBREMP's ecological potential and community readiness as a carbon project site. That work established the foundation. Bahari Nature Capital was incorporated to convert it into a credit-ready, investable asset, and gave that flagship programme its name: Kaboni Yetu.

Carbon origination at institutional quality needs a dedicated entity: one that can engage investors, negotiate offtake agreements, coordinate with Plan Vivo and the National Carbon Monitoring Centre, and move at market pace. Field delivery (community engagement, ecological restoration, and field-level MRV monitoring) is provided under formal contract by Action for Ocean (AFO), a registered Tanzanian marine conservation NGO with deep operational presence across the MBREMP coastal landscape. AFO is Bahari Nature Capital's founding conservation partner; its role is field delivery under agreement, and Bahari Nature Capital's role is commercial origination and market access.

"The barrier in Tanzania is not a lack of interest in blue carbon. It is the complexity of getting from a conservation ambition to a verified, investable programme that is genuinely community-led."

Built to grow beyond carbon

Our long-term vision is a portfolio that brings together ecosystem restoration, sustainable enterprise and investment. The company's mandate gives us room to develop nature-based projects on land and at sea, support community businesses, and connect them with finance, research and technology.

As the company grows, we aim to explore opportunities in sustainable marine enterprise, biodiversity and ecosystem services, environmental technology and renewable energy. These are directions for future growth. Our current portfolio remains Kaboni Yetu in readiness and Kunduchi Eco Park in early feasibility.

Operating inside Tanzania's carbon market

GN 636: Carbon Trading Regulations (2022)

Tanzania's primary carbon market regulation. Governs carbon rights, revenue distribution, project registration, and the roles of national and local authorities across all project types.

Regulation 34(3)(d): centrally managed marine parks

Revenue Distribution: Reg. 34(3)(d)

As a centrally managed marine park, MBREMP's revenue distribution follows the shares set by GN 636 Regulation 34(3)(d) across the marine park authority, village governments, district council, and the national registry, with the balance to the project developer.

Indicative shares are subject to regulatory confirmation and are not published here as fixed figures

Benefit-Sharing & CSR: Reg. 35

All activities are designed to comply with Regulation 35 obligations and Plan Vivo benefit-sharing standards. Bahari Nature Capital is pursuing arrangements that strengthen the community share and social licence.

This is a static information website. It runs no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking scripts, and it sets no marketing cookies.

The pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts. Those font files are served by Google, so your browser's request for them reveals your IP address and basic browser information to Google. If you would rather avoid that, block third-party fonts in your browser; the site stays fully readable in a system font.

The projects page shows an interactive map. Its base-map images come from OpenStreetMap, so opening that page loads tiles from OpenStreetMap's servers and shares your IP address with them. No other page loads the map.

One small value is kept in your browser's local storage: a flag that records you have dismissed the fonts notice, so it does not show on every visit. It never leaves your device and is never sent to us.
